A New Addition to Our Family

No not a baby! Sorry to disapoint. As of Wednesday night, Bryan and I acquired a 7 month old minx kitten. Long story short, we couldn't leave her and are way to nice to say no. So rather we spent Wed. night at the Utah Pet Center, spending $134 to get her a bunch of shots and test her for Kitty Leukemia and Kitty Aids. Yes Kitty Aids. While we waited an hour for the doc we came up with a name for our kitty. Since our other cats have Harry Potter themed names, it was only fair to name our 3rd kitty, so the name we came up with was, Nymphadora Tonks Watson, we call her tonks. Here are a couple pics from the vet while we waited

Here she is waiting with daddy. She is ridiculously cuddly and purrs like a deisel truck.

I love this one because she looks high.

So after we spend the night at the hospital we take her home to meet or other 2 kitties. Yup, that didn't go over very well. You'd think she was a 200 lb. dog by the way they were hissing at her, and then it was like they forgot that they had lived with any cats or humans for the past year and started hissing at each other and then us. It's rough.

So then we go to bed, keep Tonks in our room with us so that the other 2 don't eat her in her sleep. She slept like a rock until about 4:30 in the morning, when she decided to wake up and wander around the bed till she found the perfect spot to drop a load, that's right, she pooped right on our goose feather down comforter. So I yell at Bryan to wake up while carrying her to the bathroom and her litter box, too late, she's already done. So we put her back on the bed and she realizes that she's not done, she then procedes to pee on the comforter. I nearly threw up, don't know what i'm going to do when I have kids, I don't believe all that crap about how it's your kid and because it comes out of them it doesn't smell; bull honky, it's still poop, it still stinks.

This shows her little nub of a tail.

So that leads us up to now, our cats still don't like each other, Tonks is still now potty trained, and I have some very hostile pets in my home. So here is the question...does anyone have any tips on potty training a cat? Any tips on getting your cats to like each other? Please help me, I can't take the evil glares i'm getting from my cats or locking Tonks in the bathroom because i'm afraid she'll poop on couch next or my pillow.

Love your writing skills Molly. You crack me up. We have three cats and none are related. Somedays I think I'm insane for having them all. As matter of fact our inside cat left a little tootsie roll on our bedroom floor this morning. Jay picked it up with his fingers and sniffed it. :) Each time we got a new cat they would be 'kenneled' in a room with the litter box for a few days. They need to start in small areas to become familiar with their surroundings and no where the bathroom is. The other cats will be happy that their space isn't being invaded. Then they can hiss and spit at each other all they want through the door until they get used to the new resident. Hope that helps.

We had to do the kenneling thing with our cats too. And once they know that that litter box is theirs, they will use it. The hard part is that once they have "marked their territory" sometimes they revisit it even if they are trained.

Good luck!
